Cardiff: The Red & Black Umbrella Collective invite you to their festive Two Year Anniversary

21 Oct

From Red & Black Umbrella:

If you’re organised enough to carry ’round a diary (I am definitely not) penciling in the
1st AND 2nd of November is highly advisable as it will see our first festival!

two day event ending on the 2nd November to celebrate 2 YEARS of the occupied building in Cardiff. Easy enough to remember, right?

Beginning as a vague plan to host an Anarcho-Folk festival in Cardiff; the event has now evolved into a two day celebration of the ‘Brolly.
The space it has provided us has been invaluable to many, so we invite anyone and everybody who has shared the space with us to come, in particular any guests we have had to stay, musicians who’ve played and individuals who’ve led any lessons or workshops. Please come and celebrate with us!
This is an open event and will be donation upon entry to pay the acts who are travelling. Any excess money donated to us will go towards Cardiff squat funds and to Freedom Press Bookshop (who are still raising money to repair their shop and replace up to 700 books lost after fascists petrol-bombed their shop earlier this year).
Nobody will be refused entry if they cannot pay.

We will be releasing more information over the next two weeks to keep you all in suspense, just know that you will need your best dancing boots and both headliners will be supported by amazing local acts and musicians.

If you would like to play at the festival, run a stall or workshop on either of the days get in touch.
Also, any help with cooking or supplying skipped/vegan food for the festival would be much appreciated as we will have many mouths to feed!

Doors TBA
Drink tolerated after 7pm, Drunkenness not.
No drugs, no thugs!

14 Oct

Unedited translation:

# Press Release from the ZAD ======================

19 October 2013: Protest anniversary of evictions. 14H instead Brittany, Nantes

The signatories of this statement calling for a big event October 19, 2013 at 14H, instead Bertagne in Nantes. This is part of the first anniversary against evictions last fall, the failed operation to demolish the ZAD called “Caesar” to those hard-housed occupying the space LU various places since then.

# # Evictions on ZAD …

October 16, 2012 in the morning, the state kicked off the Caesar operation to remove and destroy the places occupied the ZAD of Notre Dame des Landes in opposition to the airport project.

At 10:30 on the field with his troops, the prefect of the Loire-Atlantique said that the operation was completed successfully and that the military occupation of the ZAD would last “a few days” to complete the destruction of homes. Given the resistance that is organized and developed, taking many forms there and everywhere, facing external solidarity ZAD who provided logistical, political and moral support, these “few days” have become months .. . ZAD is always busy!

# # A call for decentralized anniversary days

This summer, during a meeting of local committees, the idea came to celebrate the anniversary of the start of this disastrous operation. A call for a day of action on October 16 relocated was launched. In response events will be held throughout the week of October 14 to 20.

# # And evictions inadequately housed in Nantes

Last fall also, while the government was trying to empty the ZAD, Ayrault, the PS state and the city of Nantes expelled precarious and homeless occupying the Lieu Unique to challenge the authorities on the situation of hundreds people on the streets and expose their hypocritical poor housing management. Today, as a result of this movement, more than a hundred homeless people occupying a former vacuum PJJ building facing eviction with no or their proposed solution.

# # Double reason to show for birthday

Many collectives have wanted to mark the double anniversary by offering a demonstration in Nantes against all deportations. It seems important to remind concreters ejectors and all kinds of our commitment to the risks of repetition of history, the ZAD as Nantes. That is why we invite you to join in the demonstration PLACE BRITAIN Saturday, October 19 at 14h.

# # Other events

* October 16: Night of Caesar Repression. 7:30 p.m. at the prefecture of Nantes

* October 18: discussion of the book “Predators of concrete survey multinational Vinci” 20h to B17 in Nantes (17 rue Paul Bellamy), with the author Nicolas De La Casinière.

Bristol & London: Fascist sympathiser to play on this month

From Indymedia UK:

Anna Von Hausswolff publicly endorsed a terrorist who believes in “tackling anti-racism and those behind it, by all possible means”, then refused to apologize.

Singer Anna Von Hausswolff provoked nationwide outcry in her native Sweden, when Dagens Nyheter (the largest daily newspaper in Sweden) highlighted a photo of the smiling Von Hausswolff wearing a t-shirt advertising the music project Burzum, which is the solo project of Nazi terrorist Krisitian “Varg” Vikernes. After Varg Vikernes was arrested for killing his ex-friend Oystein “Euronymous” Aarseth, Vikernes was found with hundreds of kilos of explosives and thousands of bullets, with which Vikernes planned to kill young people visiting the antifascist and punk Blitz House (left-wing music space, youth centre and vegetarian café) in Oslo, Norway.

Vikernes was given the longest gaol sentence available in Norway – 21 years, including time for arson on 3 churches, which Vikernes destroyed not out of opposition to religion, but out of opposition to Christianity, which Vikernes opposes, partly because he believes Christianity is Jewish. Vikernes gave an interview to the magazine of Nazi music organisation Blood & Honour, and was in contact with the National Socialist Movement of Norway and joined the organisation White Aryan Resistance (aka WAR).After his arrest, Vikernes associates formed a Nazi-styled paramilitary “Einsatzgruppe”, stocking guns and bombs to kill political and religious opponents and to free Vikernes. When, before his scheduled release, Vikernes was granted brief leave from gaol, he hijacked a car, terrorizing 3 innocent persons at gunpoint. After his release, Vikernes was arrested again (then released) after his wife bought 4 guns. Anders Breivik sent Vikernes his manifesto. Vikernes blog says he’s currently facing a possible 5-year gaol term for “inciting racial or religious hatred”.When challenged for her endorsement of this Nazi, Anna Von Hausswolff was subject to wide condemnation on social media, and described as an “apolitical idiot” in Swedish newspapers and on TV. She is not apolitical and not strictly an idiot. SVT (Swedish national TV) quotes the Burzum website as advocating (in translation) “bekämpa anti-rasismen och de som ligger bakom den, med alla möjliga medel” – “tackling anti-racism and those behind it, by all possible means”, so there’s no way endorsing that project’s merchandise can be apolitical, and she’s intelligent enough to be a degree student in architecture (she’s also daughter of an artist whose theft of human ashes from Majdanek death-camp was condemned as “barbaric”, as “repulsive”, and as “necrophilia”, by anti-racist groups and Jewish organisations). Instead of choosing to even try to explain any misunderstanding, to say sorry or to condemn Nazism, when asked, SVT reported that “Anna von Hausswolff har valt att inte kommentera” – “Anna von Hausswolff has chosen not to comment”. Anna Von Hausswolff plans to perform in the UK on 15 Oct (Hoxton Bar, London) and 16 Oct (Cube, Bristol).

Cardiff Canton Police Station squatted

From Joe’s Garage:

Thursday September 19th 2013, Cardiff Squatters Network Infonight & People’s Kitchen, 7pm @ Joe’s Garage, Pretoriusstraat 43, 1092 EZ, Amsterdam

Squatters from Cardiff, Wales http://cardiff.squat.net/ are dropping by for an infonight about squatting in Cardiff over the last few years. Last month, Canton police station was squatted by the Antagonistic Collective Against Boredom (ACAB) and evicted a few weeks later, costing the police thousands of pounds through the courts and use of high court bailiffs.

They’ll also tell us about the recent ABC-based squat opposite the prison that successfully resisted eviction, Ty-Pwll Coch, the Municipal Club, as well as squats from 2011 and 2012; Gremlin Alley Social CentreRed & Black Umbrella and the Tax Invasion occupation.

They will also give updates on squatting in London; Made Possible By Squatting project, 195 Mare Street, County Street, London Queer Social Centre, Self-Organised London, Library Street Social Centre, and the Glasshouse, as well as ongoing repression against squatting in Bristol.

Volkseten Vegazulu is a people’s kitchen, every Monday during July and August, at 7pm, vegan food for 4€ or donation. All benefits go for social & political struggles. No reservation.

We’re always looking for cooks. Any help is welcome in the kitchen. Experience not required. Enjoying it is a must. If you want to know which days are still available in the schedule, send an email to joe[at]squat.net and book yourself the night. You can, of course, also participate by rolling up your sleeves and doing the dishes.

London: New Social Space in Hackney

28 Aug

From 195 Mare Street:

Right now we’ve got a great vibe going on, everyone sitting outside listening to chill music; the free shop is on display and we’re cooking up vegan burgers. Lots of people have been coming in to see what we’re up to and grabbing some stuff from the free shop – everything for free, they can’t always believe it.

DSCN6549DSCN6558DSCN6561

We’ll be doing the same tomorrow, letting people see that we’re here and that we want to do something positive for the community. So many people are keen to start running their own workshops and start making use of this amazing unused and abandoned space. We can’t wait either.

Join us on Thursday for lots of free food on the BBQ, popcorn, music, bubble show and lots more. We’ll also be having our free shop outside so come and get yourself some freebies.

Earlier on in the day we found 3 men knocking at our door. They told us they were contracted to come on Thursday and knock down the walls of the building, pull out the floor boards and pull out the plaster from the walls.  One guy became the ‘owner’ and said that he was going to knock down the building so he could build luxury apartments. The land registry is yet to be updated with who the new owner is, and if its only just been sold there in no way that they have been granted planning permission to do anything. The building cannot be knocked down or damaged because of this, and there has yet to be an owner who has been willing to invest in restoring this beautiful building.

We’re not sure how they intend on damaging a listed building to build flats without planning permission; there is nothing on the planning register that states any planning works to 195 Mare street at present. While this building is being left to rot away, we intend on making as positive use of this space as possible. Come and join us and make this an amazing space for everyone :)

London: MET show interest in ACAB scavenger hunt

27 Jun

Click on image for full resoltion version to circulate

Today two police officers visited the new London Queer Social Centre in an attempt to speak to someone involved in the scavenger hunt. Therefore we’d like to emphasise that LQSC/House of Brag are not involved in the call out for the event. We are and we are of no fixed abode – we are everywhere and nowhere.

Furthermore we feel the need to remind all participants that looking for vandalism is not a crime, committing it is and that would be cheating – as we previously stated. Also any ACAB graffiti in the SE11 area clearly isn’t point worthy for an SE1 scavenger hunt.

However due to increased interest in the scavenger hunt, see above a poster to promote the event, which has now been upgraded to an all day rave. Feel free to circulate.

HoB: The London Queer Social Centre Opening Day

BRAG IS BACK!

We found another beautiful, empty and lonely-looking building. Ze told us to bring all our queer friends and come party with hir forever. We said we’d do 2 weeks, and ze said fine I guess that’ll do.

We’ll tell you where ze is nearer the time obvs.

We’re running from June 22nd to July 6th as an alternative to Pride London, an event that has become increasingly alienating and depoliticised as it has become larger, feeding on funds from ugly banks and corporations.

We run everything for free, spend as little money as possible and make things back from donations.

There’s going to be a full schedule of events coming up over the next couple of weeks, including more instalments of the intersectionality series, queer cinema, street parties, queering anarchism, queers in squatting, Bash Back! street patrols, poetry and a queer literary salon. More things to be confirmed and full programme coming soon.
